Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Registration Form

What is the STEM Initiative?

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Initiative (STEM) is a comprehensive and fun opportunity for students at Mt. Sinai Educational Complex and in the 32805 community to experience courses and activities that will enable them to be better prepared for fields related to Science and Math.

During the School year students in grades 6 through 9 will have the opportunity to participate in a Robotics team. They will make a robot out of Legos, then program it to complete up to 23 prescribed tasks related to living as a senior citizen today.

In June and July STEM Enrichment Summer Camps will take place for students in the 32805 community. Robotics programming and summer camps will take place in the Technology Center and classrooms of Mt. Sinai Jr. Academy. The Robotics team will meet during school and after school from November to April.

When is the STEM Initiative?

The Robotics team will present several demonstrations to the community. Students on the Robotics team will also conduct research related to living as a senior citizen in society today. During the Robotics demo nstrations the research will be presented.

During the summer six academic enrichment camps will be held at Mt. Sinai Jr. Academy for students who live or attend school in the 32805 area:

Math Camp June 10-14
Reading Camp June 10-14
Computer Camp June 10-14
College Prep Camp July 8-12
Arts Camp July 15-19
Robotics Camp July 8-19

The Math Camp will utilize manipulatives and technology to help students appreciate and broaden their mathematical skills. At the Reading Camp students will dive into the world of books (physical and on the computer) in a creative manner that will cause them to want to read on their own every day. Competence using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point is the goal of the Computer Camp. During the College Prep Camp students will be exposed to test taking strategies, financial aid planning, college and career searches, and make visits to local colleges. The Arts Camp will allow students to explore instrumental music, voice, and drama.

The College Prep Summer Camp is especially designed for students who have completed grades 7 - 12. All other Summer Camps are geared for students who have completed grades 4-8.

Celebrating STEM

A final Celebration of STEM will be held in July. Th is celebration will help students and parents realize what the students have accomplished during the period, while focusing on the importance of Science, Technology, and Math in the life and career of the students.
